WASHINGTON –
The State Department announced on Monday that the death toll of American citizens in the recent Hamas attacks on Israel has risen to at least nine, up from four.
The department stated that an unknown number of American citizens are still missing and unaccounted for. The official count of the missing individuals has been fluctuating between six to twelve. It is uncertain whether the missing individuals have been taken hostage, killed, or are in hiding.
The State Department is currently in contact with the families of the affected individuals and is providing them with all necessary consular assistance, according to spokesman Matthew Miller.
